Classes and Other Info
Our Approach
The classes are focused on teaching the most effective Ving Tsun techniques available. All of the techniques are tested and validated by the Sifu and students to ensure they work.
The key principals taught les that overlay the SCVT classes are teaching simple, direct efficient techniques, that when executed correctly, will WORK! Your age, your strength, your fitness do not play a major part in our style and classes, it’s the way the techniques are executed.
Class Times
- Normal Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings
- Classes start at either 5pm or 530 depending on level of students – classes go for a minimum of 1hr 30mins
- Other senior classes or one-on-one sessions are available
Class Sizes
Typically class sizes are kept to 10 or less – to ensure students receive the appropriate technical support and techniques.
How much Contact is there?
SCVT teach classes that concentrate on limiting any IMPACT to the head resulting in any sort of head trauma. The softness of the style hides the damaging force behind the techniques we train. Its difficult to convey how its done, just unlike boxing there’s not a class of taking hits to the head, or karate where there’s big bruises to the body.
The Instructor
Classes are headed up by Chief Instructor and Sifu Paul Otis, supported by an Assistant Instructor and the Senior Students. Sifu Paul is able to tailor and adapt lesson plans to different sized classes, classes of students with different abilities etc.
Tournaments
True Ving Tsun is not going to work in a tournament environment. We can tell you why but this system is about self-defence against an unwelcome attacker, not scoring a point to win a match.
Equipment Required
Initially its just loose clothing and flat soled shoes, as students progress up the system there will be a need for a mouthguard. After progression into the system, student’s will require additional safety gear as the drills etc step up into real life scenarios.
